Johnny grew up in Marshville, NC. He attended Wingate University. He married Barbara Long and they were married for 63 years. He worked at AT&T for over 40 years and took early retirement.
After his retirement, he and his brother began a family construction company and developed Eaglecrest subdivision.
Johnny and Barbara had many friends along the way. They enjoyed square dancing at churches, camping with neighbors, card playing, and especially dining out with friends. Johnny was also a boy scout leader and a member of an archery club. He enjoyed fishing with his pals along the Outer Banks.
Johnny enjoyed his restored classic cars he had over the years - including a VW Bug and a T Bird. He loved seeing his grandchildren and spending time with family, as well as growing tomato plants every summer. Johnny was an active member of Mt. Harmony Baptist Church for over 50 years and served as a deacon for several years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Blair and Mary Griffin and sister, Louise Griffin of Marshville.
Johnny is survived by his loving wife, Barbara Long Griffin; his children & grandchildren, Jeffrey Griffin, his wife Elizabeth and children Olivia, Amelia, Henry & Andrew, Scott Griffin, his wife Lana and son Benjamin Coats, Kendra Beard and children, Shelby and Haley; brother, Crayton Griffin and his wife Betty.
A visitation for Johnny will be held Sunday, August 8, 2021 from 1:30 PM to 2:30 PM at Mt. Harmony Baptist Church, 2817 Mt. Harmony Church Road, Matthews, NC 28105. Funeral services will follow at 2:30 PM. He will then be laid to rest in the cemetery at Mt. Harmony Baptist Church.
