Joseph "Bill" William Brown

A lifetime resident of Charlotte, Bill was born on February 7, 1939. He was the son of the late James M. Brown and Edith Ewart Brown. He graduated from Harding High School, class of 1957, and served as a bomber jet mechanic in the United States Air Force from 1959 – 1965. After military service, Bill worked in sales at Southern Radio for nearly 30 years before joining Ellis Meares in 1995, from where he retired as Regional Sales Manager.

Bill was a connoisseur, of sorts, of good food. He enjoyed cooking and visiting a vast array of restaurants, in particular “Mom and Pop” style establishments that one finds mostly off the beaten path – and he knew where to find them anywhere across the state! He would often recall fond memories of dining at places he had visited years ago and had a knack for remembering their daily specials.

In more recent years, as his travel became limited, he would sometimes call his daughter, Trisha, to inquire where she was so that he could decide which restaurant’s daily special he wanted that day. Another of Bill’s passions was his annual autumn vacation on Holden Beach with family, and in particular, his grandchildren. A tradition for more than 25 years, he looked forward to this trip every year.

In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his brother, James M. Brown, Jr.

Bill is survived by his wife of 56 years, Patricia D. Brown; daughter, Trisha B. Hamilton (Chuck); grandchildren, Kevin Danchess (Madison), and Aimee Danchess; sister-in-law, Jackie Costner; nephew, Michael Gibson (Lora); and cousin Jeanette Shaw.
