OBITUARY
Joseph Stephen Stanley
December 4, 1925 – February 4, 2021
Joseph Stephen Stanley, 95, of Mint Hill passed away on February 4, 2021.
Mr. Stanley was born on December 4, 1925 and was the son of the late Inez Lynny Stephens and John Leonard Stanley.
He was pre-deceased by his loving wife of 72 wonderful years, Vivian Hough Stanley, his two sisters, Betty Frances Vissat and Dorothy L. Gurganous and brother, John Leonard Stanley, Jr.
He attended Maury High School in Norfolk, VA. He served in the United States Marine Corp. during WW2 in the Pacific Theatre and took part in providing security for the USS Missouri the day that Japan officially surrendered and signed peace agreements on board the ship officially bringing an end to WW2.
He attended William and Mary College and graduated from the Stonier Graduate School of Banking at Rutgers University. He also completed accounting studies at Bank’s Business College, Norfolk, VA. He was a commercial banker in Hampton Roads, VA for Thirty (30) years and after retirement continued working as a commercial finance consultant, moving to Mint Hill, NC in 1979. Mr. Stanley was a member of Arlington Baptist Church, Mint Hill, NC.
He is survived by two (2) sons, Joseph Stephen Stanley, Jr, wife Teresa, Robert Wayne Stanley, wife Maureen, daughter, Teresa Leigh Stanley Hannah, eight (8) grandchildren, fourteen (14) great-grandchildren, seven (7) nephews and five (5) nieces.
The family is planning a private graveside service.
