Joyce Hartis Jaynes, of Mint Hill, North Carolina, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ early Sunday morning, April 8, 2018, at Levine & Dickson Hospice House at Aldersgate. She was 86 years old.
Born June 9, 1931, in Indian Trail, North Carolina, Mrs. Jaynes was the daughter of the late Casper and Mary Hartis.
Joyce graduated from Bain High School in 1949, and received her B.S. degree from Carson Newman College in 1954. She met her future husband, M.S. at the college, where they worked in the cafeteria.
Joyce retired from Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools in 1989, after teaching at Bain and Piney Grove Elementary School. She loved teaching and the children she taught.
She was a long time member of Hickory Grove Baptist Church. Joyce was a strong Christian and had a deep relationship with her Lord. She passed on these values to her family.
Joyce loved to prepare meals for her family and friends.
Mrs. Jaynes was predeceased by her parents, Casper and Mary Hartis, her beloved husband, M.S. and her first grandchild, Brittany Suggett.
Joyce loved her family and was so proud of all three of her children for the adults they have become.
Joyce is survived by her three children, Melvin E. Jaynes and his wife, Rhonda, of Mint Hill, North Carolina, Cheryl Jaynes Libby and her husband, Dennis, of Casa Grande, Arizona and Beverly Jaynes Reed and her husband, Donnie, of Mint Hill, North Carolina. She is survived by her grandchildren, Andy Reed, Ashley Reed and Matt Rutledge; and great-grandchild, Aiden Suggett. Joyce is also survived by two brothers, Gerald Hartis of Alexandria, Virginia and his wife, Joanna, and Charles Hartis of Greensboro; and his children, Sarah Weiss and Cam Hartis.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from 9:00 am until 11:00 am Wednesday, April 11, 2018, at Hickory Grove Baptist Church Latin American Campus, with a funeral service immediately following at 11:00 am in the Latin American Campus Worship Center. Interment will be in Sunset Memory Gardens.
