

A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, February 10, at McEwen Funeral Service, Mint Hill Chapel, 7428 Matthews-Mint Hill Road. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home.
Born November 27, 1939 in Vandergrift, PA, Mr. Long was a son of the late Harry Edwin Long and Florence Akins Long. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran and was a member of the Civil Air Patrol. He was also a fencing instructor at C.P.C.C. Mr. Long was a mechanical engineer with Day Engineering at DuPont for many years. He enjoyed painting, sculpting and genealogical research. Mr. Long was involved in the Native American Community and regularly attended gatherings. In addition to his parents, Mr. Long was preceded in death by his brother, Gary Long, and his traveling companions, Muppet, Budd and Pookie.
Surviving are his loving wife of 50 years, Peggy Long; daughters, Wendy Rhames and Heidi Diegelman and her husband, Glenn; sisters, Cheryl Baker and Kathy Rice; uncle, Jack Long; and many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
