Kris was so easy to love, and I know that his family and friends miss him intensely. Please know that my heart is breaking with you.
An excerpt from my letter of recommendation for college:
Four years ago a very gangly young man entered my classroom, and we talked about his three older siblings who I had previously taught. He was winsome and articulate; and I remember wondering if he would be as bright as his siblings. It turned out that he was. My conversations with him and his writing revealed an insightful and thoughtful student. He enjoyed learning but like most freshman boys, his attentiveness was intermittent. He has the mind of an engineer and the heart of a poet. He has been in a challenging and competitive school most of his life, which has set the academic bar high. He just needs a chance to prove himself apart from developmental challenges of a growing boy. Once maturity and stability are present, Kris will be free to pursue future goals.
Socially, Kris is quite popular. He is intuitive and winsome. He can strike a conversation with most anyone and attracts people with his interest in their life. He served on a team to Haiti and was instrumental in building an Aquaponics system so the orphans can enjoy nutritious food that is sustainable. Kris was very motivated by this effort and revealed his ability to learn quickly and problem solve. He enjoys designing and building structures and would do this more if he had available resources. Kris is also a natural athlete. He has learned discipline and community on our Varsity Men’s Soccer Team, and they have risen to the occasion of the transition to 3A division well.
Whatever he looks like on paper, Kris has been a gift to me and to our school these past four years, and CDS will not be the same when he is gone.

I vividly remember the trip to Haiti that we took in 2013. Kris and I, and a few others, were on a puddle-jumper airplane that blew out a tire on the runway. We ended up spending the night in Port-Au-Prince before we could get another flight. Kris was a hero to so many kids from the orphanage that week as he cared for them and brought out smiles that were rare. I so enjoyed Kris's company and already miss seeing him. I long for Heaven when we will be reunited!

The Helmer family was blessed to work with many of the Madden children at CDS! Though we never interfaced directly with Kris in the classroom, we remember him fondly and are in prayer for your family. We wish you God's richest grace and peace.

In Christ,

Mark Helmer, on behalf of Mark and Andrea

Some of my favorite memories of Kris come from making videos with him. He was a natural and could improv his way through any scene flawlessly and the rest of us just had to desperately try to hold it together while he worked his magic. No one could predict where a scene was going when Kris was at the helm, but he always delivered. The best moments came from just hitting record and letting Kris do his thing. He had a true gift and it was always so much fun to experience it.

Sherri, we are just heartbroken over the loss of Kris. He was such a sweetheart. He will be dearly missed. I love the way he would always join in wholeheartedly in all the family fun. His heart was as big as he was.
Please know that we are keeping you and your family always close in prayer.

Love, Debbie & Lance

Kris! My favorite nephew. I will miss you so much. So many memories and so much fun throughout the years.

Each of your siblings have different strengths, wether they are smart, creative, funny, or talented. You were the one with a little of each sibling. I called you "The Whole Package"! You had it all.

You were so fun to hang out with. So many memories. Two of my favorites - when I was so sick one summer you and Gabe came to hang with me . We played countless Sorry games. Yes, I was the Sorry Champ!! Before you left we laid on my bed and said nothing. Just laid there for a few minutes. Then you said,"I love you Aunt Kim". No big deal, just pure sweetness!

The second memory is my last memory of you. It was Mothers Day weekend at Aunt Fern's. You ran errands with me. We were goofy at Walmart, laughing at stupid stuff. On our way home there were 2 cousins selling lemonade. We stopped to support these little guys. It was so funny , you and I laughing all the way back to the house.

We had a major Sorry battle at your mom's house. We all missed you so much. Yes, they accused me of cheating ( not true!!) . It truly was the longest game ever. And of course, I am the Sorry Champ!! One more win in your honor!

I love you so much, my heart hurts that you are gone. I find peace and joy in the fact that you did know the Lord. I am grateful that you aren't tormented anymore and you are living that billionaires life- richly blessed in heaven.

I love you , Kris! 💙💙💙

Sherri, I remember meeting you at grandma’s house in Helena at the family reunion. Watching your family grow was fun, you always had a baby for us to hold. All of them have been adorable babies and beautiful young adults. As they got older we didn’t see them much, but through social media or pictures. I remember one time Kris came with Kim for a family reunion in Sherwood. I think Mack said, it was him, Kris and Gabe together. He said, they had a good time together. All the Coco family from Arkansas sends their love and prayers. We are saddened by the loss. However, he will always be in our hearts. We will remember the fun times and his smile. Hold on tight to your faith, we know Jesus will carry you and the rest of the family through this. You have amazing faith, stay strong. The same for Kelley, Kourtney, Kory and Kyle, all of you hold on to each other and find strength and love. Please know we will be praying for each of you, including your spouses and children. Taylor, wow what a great thing to put up the go fund page, so many people showed their love. Sherri, you have lots of blessings. 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽 We love you all.

Sherri, I have such great memories of getting to know Kris over the years. He was always so personable and friendly! I remember playing ‘Apples To Apples’ at Ginny’s house with him-my 1st time to play that game! And our fun Tissie/Cousin trip when we all spent the night at Kourtney and Taylor’s. He was so sweet!

Kris, although I never met you in person I feel like I know you through your mom. (My older son is one of her Latin students.) Everyone can tell how much your sweet mother loves you and your brothers and sisters. God gave her five children because He knew that she had more than enough love to give each and every one of you. I know there were difficult times growing up, but I hope that you never wavered on whether your mom and siblings loved you through the trials. Your precious mom has a heart of gold and a heart for Jesus! Thank you for sharing her with other kids like my son Jake. It's easy to see the love for her students by how much time and effort she gives "all things Latin." You touched so many lives just like your mom does every day.
