Mary Ruth Evans, age 65, of Matthews, North Carolina passed away on Monday, March 1, 2021 at Novant Medical Center in Matthews from COVID-19. Mary was born July 4, 1955. A memorial gathering for Mary will be held Friday, March 5, 2021 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at McEwen Funeral Service-Mint Hill Chapel, 7428 Matthews-Mint Hill Road, Mint Hill, North Carolina 28227.
Mary was born on July 4, 1955 at Lincolnton Memorial Hospital in Lincolnton, North Carolina. She was the daughter of the late Earnest and Ruth Richardson. Raised in Charlotte, North Carolina, she was brought up to be respectful and to have patience. As a child, she learned to be caring, responsible and observant. These were all traits that she would carry with her throughout her life and career. Her primary occupation was a Nurse for 45 years, and she loved every minute of it.
Love can’t be defined but must be experienced. That was so true for Mary. On September 24, 1976 Mary married John Daniel Evans at St. John Baptist Church in Charlotte, North Carolina. She was totally committed to John for 45 years. It was as if Mary naturally sensed her spouse’s needs and accepted those feelings unconditionally.
She is survived by her husband, John; her children, David and Heather; her grandchildren, Luke and Jacob; her sister, Patricia and her brother, Michael. She was preceded in death by her oldest brother Charles. Mary requested cremation, and her ashes to be mixed with her husband upon his death and spread throughout the Caribbean.
It is said that some people can’t see the forest for the trees. Mary was able to focus on each individual tree, tending to its needs, thus making the forest stronger as a whole. Mary was a trustworthy, empathetic, warm-hearted, and selfless person, the kind of woman to whom everyone was drawn. She was kind and practical. Mary was very literal with her words. You always knew where you stood. Needless to say, she will be terribly missed.
