Mary "Jo" Hipp Wickert

Mary "Jo" Wicker, 86, of Matthews passed away Thursday, August 4, 2011. She was born on February 25, 1925 to Franklin and Katie Allen Hipp of Charlotte. Jo was a graduate of Harding High School. She retired from Western Electric (Lucent) after 40 years of employment. Jo was a member of MorningStar Presbyterian Church, Presbyterian Women and The Happy Times Club. She loved her family and many friends.

Jo is survived by her loving daughter, Sue Ferguson Walker of Midland; and her niece, Nancy Smith of Charlotte. She was also survived by four great nieces, Nancy Rea Pepper of Boone, Cindy and Mark Stankovich of Denver, Sherri and Steve Helms and Terri and Bill Long, all of Charlotte. Jo also had two great nephews and four great nieces.

The family offers their most sincere appreciation to her caregivers, The Hoover Family (Marjorie, Michael, Ryan and Barbie.) They also offer a special thanks to the doctors and nurses at Matthews Presbyterian Hospital for their loving care.

A visitation will be held at McEwen Funeral Service, Mint Hill Chapel, 7428 Matthews-Mint Hill Road, Mint Hill, NC, from 3 to 5 PM Saturday, August 6. A funeral service will be held 2 PM Sunday in the funeral home chapel. Entombment will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens Mausoleum.
