Nathan Scott Tarantino
October 16, 2003 – April 1, 2021
Our sweet baby Nathan went to be with Jesus the morning of April 1, 2021. Though this is the most difficult news to share, we know that there are many who have prayed for and supported Nathan during his battle with cancer.
Nathan was born on October 16, 2003 in Richmond, Virginia. His love of movies allowed him to communicate with others in a way that was unique and special to him. Among his favorite movies were "The Parent Trap," "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory," and "The Incredibles." Nathan could often be heard singing along to the Water Buffalo Song and many other silly songs from VeggieTales. His ability to match the tone and tenor of any voice on the silver screen made his impressions spot on, and he expected perfect recitation of movie quotes from others. Always multitasking, Nathan could construct elaborate Lego houses and complete complex word games on his iPad while reciting his favorite movie lines. His Legos were off limits to everyone else in the house because only he was equipped and skilled enough to handle assembly. Nathan always had the brightest smile to light up even the darkest days. He touched so many lives with his cheerful personality and warm-hearted disposition.
Left behind to cherish his memory are his parents, Brian and Kristen; his siblings, Owen, Christian, and Emersyn; his dog, Sweet Pea; grandparents, Stephen and Eileen Layne and Mary Beth Tarantino; great grandparents, John and Rochelle Grey and Elizabeth Mays; and several other family members.
A drop-in visitation will be held on Monday, April 5th, 2021 from 5:00 to 7:00pm at McEwen Funeral Service Mint Hill Chapel, 7428 Matthews-Mint Hill Rd., Mint Hill, NC 28227. A funeral mass to celebrate Nathan's life will be held on Tuesday, April 6th, 2021 at 11:00am at St. Luke Catholic Church, 13700 Lawyers Rd., Mint Hill, NC 28227. He will be laid to rest at Forest Lawn East Cemetery in Matthews, NC.
We will forever be grateful for our team at Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters, for all the doctors, nurses, and child life specialists who helped our family through his initial treatment so that we were able to spend an additional 7 years with him. We also are thankful for the support of Nathan’s care team at Levine Children's Hospital and our hospice team.
To our friends, family, and Nathan supporters, thank you for helping us celebrate his life and cheer him on for every accomplishment. It is hard to imagine our family life without him. We are heartbroken to have to say goodbye and are trying to find solace in the knowledge that after such a journey he is no longer suffering.
In lieu of customary remembrances, we encourage you to continue your support of Nathan's family through his "Go Fund Me" via the link provided.
We invite you to leave fond memories and words of comfort for the family at www.mcewenminthillchapel.com.

Nathan Scott was a joy, a sparkle of light to everyone. Gifted in so many ways, contending with his daily suffering and battles with cancer, Nathan was an inspiration beyond what words can express. A favorite memory of his younger days, my grandson would march right to the piano as soon as he entered the door of my home, and loved playing those pearly white and black keys...up and down the scales Nathan played and he was amazing! You now rest peacefully in eternal joy with God, the angels and saints. I'll miss your incredibly big hugs and smiles. All my love, Grandpa T.

Nathan has a wonderful laugh! He would start smiling, then giggle, and burst into laughter from the depths of his soul ! Watching him made me laugh too! He had pure joy in his heart! When he was younger he would tap my arm, put his head on my shoulder and say, I Love You Grandma-Mom💕 Laugh and Sing with the Angels Nathan I will love you always!

My sweet nephew, you were an angel on earth and now an angel in the sky.
I know you are singing the Sound of Music in heaven. We love you.

Nathan loved when we would visit. He loved Lizzy “baby Elizabeth” the most and would share just about anything with her.

Oh Nathan! I have always inserted myself into your family often without permission. When your mom was pregnant with you, WE were having a baby. At your parents wedding, WE were getting married. Whatever it was, we were doing it together.
You will always be a part of our "we" and live on in our hearts. We miss you!

Nathan’s smile would light up those around him and I enjoyed seeing him in the halls at school last year. My prayers are with his family at this time. Nathan will be missed at Porter Ridge High School.
