

Peggy Ann Harris Long, age 80, of Charlotte, NC, died September 22, 2013 in the care of Levine & Dickson Hospice House-Huntersville. Born June 10, 1933 in Charlotte, NC, she was a daughter of the late James Warren Harris and Lucille Cochran Harris.
Mrs. Long was a lifelong member of Back Creek Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church, where she was a member of Circle number four and loved being part of the supper committees. She loved spending time at Bonclarken, a church retreat in Flat Rock, NC.
Mrs. Long graduated from East Mecklenburg High School in 1951. Prior to East Meck., she attended Newell School and grew up in the Newell Community, where she raised her four children alongside her husband. Mrs. Long worked for American Trust Company (now Wells Fargo), Swift Company, Armour Meat Company, and Nationsbank in the Lock Box department (now Wells Fargo). She was very close to her children and will always be remembered for her smile and devotion toward them. Mrs. Long was a wonderful cook and enjoyed cooking for family dinners after church and large family reunions. Mrs. Long took great joy in watching her grandsons play baseball and didn’t miss many games. Family was very important to her.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Long was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. William Howard Long, Sr.
She is survived by her brothers, James Warren Harris Jr. and William Cochran Harris; a sister, Emma Elizabeth Bentley; sons, William Howard Long, Jr. and wife, Kathy Ireland Long, of Midland, James Michael Long of Mt. Pleasant, and Stuart Donovan Long and wife, Cheryl Long, of Concord; and daughter, Pamela Ann Long Alwran and husband, Arnold Alwran, of Charlotte. Also surviving Mrs. Long are her six grandsons, one great-grandson and three great-granddaughters.
The funeral will be held at Back Creek Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church on Thursday, September 26, 2013, at 11:00 A.M., with the visitation preceding from 9:45 until 10:45 A.M. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
