Rebecca Giesler Morgan (Becky) passed away October 15, 2014 under Hospice care after a 10-month battle with cancer. She was born to Moravian missionary parents in Puerto Cabezas, Nicaragua, on March 17, 1961. She moved to the Winston-Salem area in 1969 and graduated from South Stokes High School in 1979. She received her Associate’s degree in Business in Charlotte and got her paralegal certification in Atlanta. She worked as a paralegal in the legal office of Piedmont Airlines in Winston-Salem until their merger.
On March 4, 1989, Becky married Derrick L. Morgan from Thomasville, NC and they had three children that she became a full-time mother to. As her children grew older, she had more motherly love than her own children could absorb, and became a pre-school teacher at Hickory Grove Methodist Pre-School. It’s here where “Mrs. Morgan” nurtured hundreds of 3 year-olds in the “3 R’s” and the love of Jesus for ten years.
She was a twenty five year member of Peace Moravian Church in Charlotte. She played flute in the church band and sang in the choir. Her beautiful alto voice will be sorely missed.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by daughters Kelsey Morgan Smart (Sergeant Brian Smart, USMC), of Twenty-Nine Palms, CA; Leah Morgan, of Chapel Hill; and son, Grant Morgan, of the home; her parents, John and Barbara Giesler, of Winston-Salem; her sisters, Debby Giesler Pyatt (Tim), of State College, PA and Cindy Giesler Meier (David), of Atlanta, GA and brother Chris Giesler (Tina) of Bethlehem, PA. She is survived by 3 nephews and 5 nieces.
A celebration of life service will be held 4:00 p.m. Saturday, October 25, 2014, at Peace Moravian Church, 4418 Rea Road in Charlotte.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Grant W. Morgan College Fund (contact family for details) or the American Cancer Society.
Condolences may be offered at www.mcewenminthillchapel.com.angements under the direction of McEwen Funeral Service - Mint Hill Chapel, Mint Hill, NC.
