Alan was born April 02, 1952, in Pinehurst, NC, to the late Rex and Martha Bullock. He grew up in Red Springs, NC and graduated from Red Springs High School in 1971. He then attended Wayne Comunity College where he earned an Electric Lineman degree.
Alan moved to Charlotte, NC in 1973 and met his future wife, Kathy Bullock, in 1975 at AutoBell Car Wash. They later married in 1980.
He worked in sales after first moving to Charlotte but spent most of his career in Contruction and as a Maintenance Technician. The past three years he was employed by Greystar.
Alan spent many years coaching for Charlotte Youth Athletic Club (CYAC) and Mint Hill Athletic Association. After coaching he became a USSSA and NSA Girls Softball umpire.
Alan was a loving husband and dad. He always said the thing he was most proud of in life was his children but his children were equally proud of him. They admired him and the way he loved and cared for his mom when she became ill.
He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He loved all sports but his favorite teams were Carolina Tarheels, Atlanta Braves and Carolina Panthers. He loved coaching, umpiring and watching Amber and Tyler play sports through school and as adults. He enjoyed fishing, shooting pool and listening to music with the neighborhood guys on Friday nights, 4th of July picnics at the beach, family trips and laying on the sofa with his dog Luna.
Alan never met a stranger and always had this unique way of making a comment, telling a joke or a story that made you laugh. There were times when he would attempt to use phrases he had heard the kids use like “My Bad” but, what he thought they were saying was “My Bag” so to our family that phrase has and always will be “My Bag”.
In the last several years Alan picked up a new hobby that he really enjoyed: digging for rubies. It seemed like an odd hobby to many; to go sit in the dirt and dig but he loved it. He found the 2nd largest ruby ever discovered in North Carolina and it now sits in a museum in the North Carolina mountains.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Kathy Grice Bullock, children Amber and Tyler Bullock, brother Gary Bullock (Denise), sister in laws Judy Doby (Mickey) and Debbie Godwin, brother in law Ricky Grice (Jodi), nieces, nephews, and many dear friends that he thought of as family.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Henry Rex Bullock and Martha Lee Currie Bullock
