

She was a beloved, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, wife and friend. Born June 6, 1947 in Albemarle, NC as the youngest of 3 children, she was the daughter of Hubert D. and Ruby B. Thomas. Sue later moved to Charlotte then to Mint Hill, NC, where she spent most of her life. She was a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church in Charlotte, and was a previous member of Mint Hill Baptist Church, where she was very active, taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School for many years. She worked as a bank teller at NCNB and United Carolina Bank until she became a full-time stay at home mother. She later returned to work part-time for the Charlotte Mecklenburg school system for many years. Sue loved her family, her dogs, country music, playing piano, being outdoors and travelling.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Hubert and Ruby Thomas, and her brother, Gene Thomas.
She is survived by her husband of 53 years, William “Gene” Ferguson, her daughter, Rhonda Libby, her son, Mark Ferguson (Michelle), grandchildren, Ashley Dwyer, Brandon Smith, Austin Smith, Owen Ferguson, Brady Ferguson, great-grandchild, Skyler Smith, sister, Audrey Helms, her best friend of 55 years, Linda Embrey, two sister-in-laws and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Dr. Mohammad Bolouri, Dr. Dimitrios Hondros, Hospice and Palliative Care of Charlotte and their staff and Cadence Assisted Living of Mint Hill for their attention and caring throughout her illness.
A visitation will be held from 1:00 pm until 3:00 pm on Monday, July 6, 2020 at McEwen Funeral Service-Mint Hill Chapel. A funeral service will be held at 3:00 pm in the chapel. A private family graveside will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association Western Carolinas Chapter or to Cornerstone Baptist Church, Charlotte NC.
