Thelma graduated from Bain High School in Charlotte where she enjoyed playing basketball. After high school she attended Charlotte Commercial College taking bookkeeping and secretarial courses. She and Bill Campbell Sr. were married on December 23, 1944. She worked as a business secretary for some years before she found her true passion as an elementary school secretary in the CMS system. In combining her secretarial skills with caring for children her heart was truly fed. She also served her Lord by loving and teaching children in Sunday School classes for over twenty years. Thelma served adults in her church family of Philadelphia Presbyterian Church as a devoted member of a women's circle and as Circle Chair and Moderator for several years. Around the house she enjoyed working with her hands in the soil. She nurtured plants, flowers and shrubs of all kinds including roses. She read a great deal and particularly later in life underlined most of what she read. She was a devoted wife, mother, sister, teacher and friend.
Thelma was predeceased by her husband and by siblings: Eloise McIntyre, Yates Phillips and Jeanette Driggers and survived by her children: Bev Voelzow (Norm), Kathleen Lolli (Peter) and Bill Campbell Jr. (Nancy) and grandchildren, Ryan and Erin, along with sisters: Rachel Tweed, Frances Kiser (Bob), Gladys Suggs (Bob), sister-in-law Grace Phillips, along with numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
