Known to his loved ones as Ken, he retired from Mount Hope Machinery and had served his country for four years in the U.S. Air Force. He was active in his church community at Woodlawn Baptist Church as a member of the Crusaders Class.
He is preceded in death by his father, Robert Luke Helms, mother, Rebecca Faye Young Helms, and daughter, Myra Anne Helms Brown.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Patricia A. Gordon Helms, grandchildren Jennifer H. and Matthew J. Gill, sister, Edith Wilson, as well as many nieces, nephews and in-laws.
A funeral service will be held at twelve o’clock in the afternoon on Wednesday, the 6th of July, 2016 at McEwen Funeral Service-Mint Hill Chapel, 7428 Matthews-Mint Hill Road, Mint Hill, NC 28227 with visitation held one hour prior to the service.
