Yvonne was a Charlotte native and graduated from Garinger High School. She received her cosmetology degree from Plaza Beauty School in 1967.
She was married to her hero and best friend Jim, for 53 years. Their marriage was a testament to how marriage vows should be honored. Yvonne lovingly raised her sons and was a caretaker and a nurturer to her grandchildren as well.
Yvonne worked as a hairstylist at Crosby Hairstyling for the majority of her career where she saw many, many clients that turned into numerous friends. She had the ability to listen, laugh, and love everyone she encountered. She enjoyed many trips and classes with her fellow stylists and made countless memories.
She was a devout Christian and gave her heart and soul to service in her church and community. Yvonne belonged to Bible Baptist Church in Matthews and then moved her membership to Graceway Baptist Church in Weddington, where she attended for the last 11 years. During her times at church, Yvonne enjoyed fellowship with her peers and hosted and helped with a multitude of events. She loved her Bible study classes and encouraged involvement and service. She never hesitated to tell you how she loved the Lord.
Yvonne leaves a legacy as a God-fearing woman, a loyal wife, a loving and doting mother, and a great helper and friend. She was a caretaker of many, and a generous soul. There was no one more important to her than Jim, her sons, Jeff and Scott, her little Yorkie, Grace, and her circle of friends...except perhaps her grandchildren. Yvonne would light up when recalling precious memories or celebrating their accomplishments. You never left her without her giving big hugs and hundreds of kisses. She constantly told her family that she loved them.
Yvonne’s family will cherish the memories made by the many beach trips, ballgames and family meals she orchestrated. She was a phenomenal cook and we will miss her pecan tarts, chocolate cake, and her stuffing. She was the glue that held her family together and she made it her goal to support and encourage each and every member. She was persistent, strong, and, up until the end, as stubborn and independent as she could be. She was an example to many of what God wants us to be. She was generous and funny. She had a great laugh. She would play games, do puzzles and read her Bible and she loved to talk for hours on the telephone. She celebrated life with her friends as well, and cherished those she could depend on.
She missed her dad Clifford every single day and was beyond happy to reunite with him on Wednesday. Yvonne is survived by her 95-year-old mom, Nell, (her precious husband Jim, her sons, Jeff (Lisa) and Scott (Jennifer), and her grandchildren; Brandon, Drew, Kristopher, Jaime and Christina.
