I was so fortunate to spend time with Alan when I first met him in 1979 at his home in Chatsworth. Our first date was in one of his vintage Jaguar Cars and it broke down! lol From there we kept in touch through the years until once again we met at the FYH reunion and then subsequently dined together with another friend at Follow Your Heart in Canoga Park just before he passed. Rest in Peace my friend. You are thought of frequently and give me many laughs from the memories we made!
Love, here and there. Fewks

I am personally shocked after hearing about Allan Mootnick's passing away news. I remember I was introduced to Allan by Dr. Eudey at the 2009 ASP meeting in San Diego. It was my first ever very short meeting with Allan who had invited me to come over to Santa Clarita to visit his Gibbon Conservation Center. He also gave me one visiting card of his GCC. As today (18th June 2012) I came to know that the ASP is organising its annual fun run in Sacramento in memory of Allan, the news of his passing away saddened my heart. I send my deep condolence to the family members of Allan and also to all those attached with Allan's GCC.

I was just about to list Alan as a reference for a volunteer position I am applying for and typed his name on to make sure I spelled his last name correctly when I saw an article stating he passed away. I can not believe it.

I met Alan 6 years ago while volunteering at the Center through LA Works. I always felt welcomed and appreciated by Alan. He opened up his home (the Center) to me and the volunteers I led unconditionally. A few years ago, I moved out of the area and started a family but always intended on coming back to the Center to say "Hi" to Alan and give a few hours of my time. I will always regret not being about to say goodbye and thank him for his wonderful spirit.

Just learned of Alan's passing, hard to believe. A very special person who made you feel that you were special just because you knew him. He enjoyed his life so much. He never tired of teaching about the love of his life, gibbons and siamangs. I hope there are hoolocks in heaven. He will be missed.

I am deeply saddened to hear of Alan's passing. Even though I met him only once, he left a deep impression on me. I was touched by his knowledge and his passion for his gibbons and his future hopes for his conservatory. It was too soon for his passing. RIP Alan.

I was shocked and deeply saddened to hear the news of Alan's death. I volunteered at the GCC in 2007 and found Alan to be an inspiring person whose capacity for hard work and enthusiam for his gibbons was limitless. The GCC is a great and lasting legacy to this passion. I will always have fond memories of my time at the GCC. I pass on my condolences to his friends and family.

Alan will remain in a special place in the hearts of many as a prime example for all of us. Alan believed in his committment to the Gibbons, sharing his passion with everyone he came into contact with here at home, and around the world; he believed in what he was accomplishing and that strength of purpose should be a constant reminder to all of us to work diligently to make a difference every day through our own efforts in the years ahead.
My sincerest condolences to everyone affected by his loss within the Gibbon community, and to his family.

I remember when I was a little girl...maybe that was 33 years ago. Anyways, Alan had his first Gibbon,...her name was Stumpy. You see, Alan was dating my mom. Oh,...he had an assortment of creatures back then but Stumpy was special. ..always so very special. After connecting with Alan all these years later I feel so proud of him and all his love and accomplishments for these apes. You know Alan used to have all these jaguars,...and I remember riding in these fancy old two seaters. When I told him I remembered this he said" I sold the cats to save the apes"....and that's just what he did~ I am so very deeply sorry for the huge loss the apes must feel, and for his family, friends, co-workers too..just everyone!
with warm regards, Nikkol
