Avery Mark Golden

Avery Mark Golden of Encino, California passed away peacefully on his own terms Tuesday August 4, 2026. He was conducting business until the last few minutes and telling stories to the family that surrounded him. He chose palliative care to end his life because he knew he wasn’t going to get better and never wanted to live diminished and as an invalid.

He was born in Los Angeles August 10, 1952, and was the beloved son of Marilyn and Allen Golden. The family moved to Chicago when he was a baby to be near family. He was 9 when the family returned to California where he spent the rest of his life in Encino. He graduated in 1970 from Birmingham High School.

Avery was trained at his father’s side in the Nursing Home business and then in construction. Together they built homes in Encino. For the last 40 years, Avery acted as the sole property manager for the 7 buildings that he acquired during his lifetime. He did all the repairs and maintenance until recently, tenant improvements, leases, bookkeeping etc.

Avery will be remembered for his many hobbies; drumming,astronomy, art collecting, collecting comic books, minerals, driving way to fast and acquiring too many tickets. He loved to travel and taking photos most of which he deleted when he came home. He only saved the photos he deemed to be the best. He had a great sense of humor and loved to tell stories and jokes. Often the stories were not totally true, he loved to embellish to make them sound better, but that was Avery. One of his favorite things to say was, “Glad to meet me” and he called all females on the phone his girlfriend and girl.

Avery is survived by his parents, Allen and Marilyn Golden, his wife, Faith who was his first girlfriend at age 16, his son, Noah Golden, daughters Audra Philbin and Hanna Golden, his stepchildren, Aaron Mischel and Jennifer Mischel Vahle. He loved his grandchildren more than anything and used to say, “Who cares about the kids, its all about the grandchildren now”. His Grandchildren are Alexis and Link Golden, Rylee and Theo Mischel, Colton Brisette-Mathias and Mitzie and Rory Philbin.

The memorial service will be held on August 6, 2026, at Groman Eden Mortuary in Mission Hills California at 10 AM.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the TS Alliance in his honor.

Avery will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him. He wanted everyone to know that he is out traveling the universe and if you want to talk to him, he’s there. He thanks everyone for being a part of his life.
