Barbara David Isidore Lichtman— January 4, 1946 - April 15, 2018. She always joked that she was born in Two Egg, Florida (but it was really Stamford, Connecticut), and she passed in Valencia, California.
To say Barbara lived life to the fullest is an understatement. Here’s a woman who had a bucket list of accomplishments outlined when she was younger, and achieved nearly all of them. The only holdout was becoming an airplane pilot (but she did build amateur rockets that went over a mile skyward, so maybe that counts?). She took stunning photographs, went on countless adventures, travelled all fifty states several times over, earned a doctorate, established her own computer training company, spoke to people across the globe on a HAM radio, became a skilled magician member of the Magic Castle, and lived her truth as a woman who was accepted into groups like the Red Hats. It would be easier to list things she didn’t do than to list ones she did. Always the life of the party, permanently sharing her stories with everyone.
She and her spouse, Anita, were blessed to be best friends and partners in life, married for over 50 years. And they always kept each other laughing and finding new roads to travel. Their son, Nathan, remembers his ‘dad’ as his scoutmaster, his confidant, his magician assistant, and his role model. Anita lives in the RV that she and Barbara retired to full time. And Nathan and his wife, Allison, live in Los Angeles.
A small burial service will take place at the Hillcrest Memorial Park in West Palm Beach, Florida on Thursday April 19th at around 3pm (if you are attending, please text Nathan at 818-631-8813 to confirm the time).
And then the family would like to invite you for a memorial and celebration of Barbara’s life at Temple Aliyah in Woodland Hills, California on Sunday, May 6th at 11am. Please come and share your own Barbara stories and memories.
Shiva services will be held in the chapel at Temple Beth El in West Palm Beach, Florida on Friday April 20th at 8am and on Sunday April 22nd at 9am. Shiva will continue at Temple Aliyah in Woodland Hills, California, Monday, April 23rd; through Wednesday, April 25th, in the chapel, at 7:15pm each evening.
