Barbara B. Weingast, a beloved and cherished resident of Encino, California, passed away on October 18, 2025, at the age of 100. Born on June 19, 1925, in Brooklyn, New York, Barbara was a kind-hearted and loving individual who touched the lives of many.
During her early years, Barbara's family moved to Great Barrington, Massachusetts, during the Depression due to work opportunities but the family later returned to Brooklyn. She was the daughter of Regina and Frank and had a younger sister, Lynn.
Barbara pursued a career in nursing, becoming one of the first nurse practitioners in the US. She worked with the Los Angeles Unified School District and by partnering with a doctor and another nurse practitioner, Barbara and her colleagues were able to provide essential medical care, including check-ups and vaccinations, for LAUSD children who otherwise had no access.
In 1947, Barbara married Ed, and together they raised three children: Barry, David, and Susan. Barbara was known for her ability to meet each of her children where they were, providing them with the support they needed and embracing their individuality. Her family was of utmost importance to her, and she ensured her children were exposed to education, arts, and culture.
Barbara and Ed shared a love for travel, often journeying with close family friends. She was an avid reader and read for as long as she could. Barbara and her husband were long-time season ticket holders to the LA Philharmonic and the Mark Taper Forum. When their seat-mates at the Philharmonic learned that they were giving up their tickets, they offered to help them drive to the theatre so they could continue to attend.
Funeral services will be held on October 21, 2025 at 2:00 pm at Groman Eden Mortuary followed by a graveside service. Groman Eden Mortuary and Eden Memorial Park is located at 11500 Sepulveda Blvd., Mission Hills, CA 91345.
