David graduated with a BS degree from the University of Georgia and received a Masters in Education at California State University, Northridge.
David was devoted to his family. His greatest passion and joy was his three sons.
He coached baseball and football for all three of the boys.
David was a proud educator and taught at Fremont High School in L.A. for 7 years. At the time of his death he taught Chemistry at Northridge Academy High school in Granada Hills. David touched the lives of many children and his legacy will live on in his sons and the youth he inspired.
In his younger years he owned and operated a pizza business and came to California to work as operations and quality control of the original California Pizza Kitchens.
David was of the Jewish faith and was a member of Temple Ahavet Shalom.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Marion Speer.
David is survived by his wife of 25 years, Lisa Harrison Speer, R.N. and 3 sons, Derek Speer, Santa Rosa California, Aaron Speer, Granada Hills, Ca, Jacob Speer, Granada Hills, CA., his father, Howard Speer, Las Vegas, Nev. Brothers, Bert Speer (Amy), Rochester, N.Y., Alan Speer (Barbara) Miami, Florida, Stanley Speer (Andrea) Syracuse , N.Y. and many nieces and nephews. His father and mother in law, Joe and Betty Harrison, Hot Springs Ar., Sister in-law, Nancy (Tom) Parker, Suffolk, Va., brother in-law, Ben Harrison (Tracy) , Frisco Texas and close friends, Steve Charles, Lupe Callejas, Jerry Glotzer, Zig Zigler, Larry Harris and David Jenkins. And His constant companion cat, Kitty Girl.
David’s service will be at Temple Ahavat Shalom, Sunday, January 26 at 2 pm with Rabbi Barry Lutz officiating visitation after service at the temple. Memorials may be made to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society or American Cancer Society.
