David was an inspiration to me and so full of love for his family. Throughout the time he was at Northridge Academy, there wasn't a day that he didn't add something special to our culture. How lucky we were to have had him. My loving thoughts to his family.

David was a childhood friend and part of a group of hometown friends who still remain close through the years and the miles. He was simply a super nice guy, a very positive and caring person. He will be greatly missed by us all.

It is with great sadness that I write this as it means Mr. Speer's has passed. He has not lost his struggle with cancer but has succeeded in his battle to stay with his family for as long as possible. His wife and sons were always his inspiration as he continued on through sheer will, bravery with grace, and optimism. While he no longer resides with us on earth, he continues to live on in our hearts and minds. David will never be forgotten. God Bless.

I would like to send my condolences to David's family and friends. When we first learned of his illness a few years ago, the students wrote an article detailing his strength in the face of struggle in the school paper. David carried such strength and commitment to teaching and was an inspiration to students and teachers alike.

"I remember how much you were struggling when I had you junior year, and yet when you were well enough to come to class you never showed any sign of being sick! You were so strong, and you truly loved what you did. Your class was one of my favorites. I have never enjoyed chemistry as much as I did when you were teaching it to me. Thank you so much for passing on your wisdom and sharing your spirit with us. Rest in peace, Mr. Speer. You will be dearly missed."

I was David's assistant in his chemistry classroom for several years. He was a wonderfully warm man, a kind man who has touched many people deeply. He will truly be missed by everyone who knew him. God really surrounds himself with the best. I will miss you my friend.
