Today I received the sad news from my brother that my dear, beautiful mother has just passed away (pictured here in her 70's). She would have turned 89 on her next birthday in March... My heart breaks.
Straight from Casablanca, and following her wedding day, she and my father left for a better life in Montreal where I was born. She raised four children; two girls and two boys, of which I was the oldest. Her life was always focused on family first and she could make a tiramisu like no other. She had only entered a professional cycle when we became of age.
A true fashionista always into style, she did custom fashion work privately at home; until she ultimately opened her atelier in Beverly Hills. There she quickly picked up a demand among actors, models, athletes, producers, corporate VIP's, and even Playmates. Her sought after work went beyond main apparel, as she would also do gorgeous evening and wedding gowns. Bob Mackie had even come to her for some pinch hitting. When I was just a teen, she vowed to make my wedding dress for when my big day would come... which significantly fast forward, to now, (still) hasn't happened. Sorry Mom I couldn't take you up on that offer... though eyes on a next lifetime, a down-the-road consciousness, as I hold your promise in my heart for when we may meet again...
Beyond fashion, and after having her fill of needle and thread, she embarked into beauty where she became a master hairstylist and beautician. Her talent in this domain took shape, like everything else she touched, and it didn't take long to become popular among her esteemed clientele; for her hairstyles to skin care. My mother had hands of gold and was an exceptional artisan.
A one-of-a-kind role model as devoted mother, wife, daughter, sister, and friend, Esther Soussana will be further remembered as the consummate cheerleader and designated glue holder of this family. Today she joins my dearly departed father and sister, as our immediate tribe has now just lost another precious soul... Goodbye Mom, miss you forever. 💔
