George was born to Esther (née Weinberg) Herskovitz and William Herskovitz on February 5, 1925. Esther was born December 2, 1902, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and William "Bill" was born December 25, 1896, in Surthe, Hungary. George was a Boy Scout, earning the Eagle Scout award. He received an Honorable Discharge from the US Army as a corporal on February 13, 1946. He married Selma Lipman, mother of his children, on September 11, 1949. George was employed by the Fuller Brush Company for 50 years!
Remembered by his daughter, Julie...
In 1955, George was diagnosed with testicular cancer. He was at the VA hospital in Westwood, California, and they did not know too much about treating cancer back then. They cut him open from front to back, on both sides, (I always remember those huge scars!), and closed him up. They told my mother to go to visit the relatives in Pennsylvania, as he will not live for another 6 months. He showed them!
He was a very kind man, never cussed and was never confrontational. People loved him. Fuller Brush was his life. He kept many friends who worked with him, and had many customers always coming up to him in stores to say hello!
Arrangements under the direction of Groman Eden Mortuary, Mission Hills, CA.
