Hyman S. Harris passed away peacefully on November 22, 2025, after a long and beautiful life of 95 years. He was the beloved partner of Ina Underberger and a cherished presence in the lives of her sons, Daniel (Lori) and Steven (Cynthia). Hy was a devoted grandfather to Shira (Ethan Levitt), Westin, Marisa (Thomas Stepanovic), Lexi (Alec Vowels), and Ally, and the proud great-grandfather of Jace Levitt, who always brought a smile to his face. Nothing made Hy happier than being surrounded by family.
Born in Los Angeles, Hy graduated from Eagle Rock High School before joining his father, Phil, and brother, Harvey, in the family business, Hiram’s Ranch Market. From that foundation grew the Harris and Thomas Christmas tree business, a tradition Hy carried on for many years. He later focused his energy on Fashion Corner, a women’s clothing store, while still dedicating every December to the Christmas tree business he loved.
Hy proudly served in the U.S. Navy for four years, stationed in Hawaii. As a cook responsible for feeding hundreds of servicemen at a time, he honed skills that he carried with him throughout his life—most notably as the ever-reliable cook at home, a role Ina greatly appreciated.
An avid golfer, Hy celebrated five holes-in-one over the course of his golfing career. When he wasn’t on the course, he could often be found watching tournaments on TV, or emphatically cheering for the Dodgers. The only time we would hear Hy being loud is when the game was on.
Hy will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him.
A service will be held on Tuesday, November 25, at 10:00 AM at Groman Eden Mortuary in Mission Hills, California.
