

Born in 1928 to Czechoslovakian immigrants in the town of Solotvina to a family torn by war. A child of the Holocaust he lost his parents and two younger siblings to the gas chambers while he and two remaining siblings were left to survive the horrors of Auschwitz and several other concentration camps. Miraculously both the brothers and sister would survive and eventually reunite years later after once again being torn apart.
Despite his unimaginable journey he ventured to France and Italy and eventually to Toronto, Canada where he would meet his beloved wife Helen whom remained by his side until his last breath.
Together they created a wonderful family. Four beautiful children. Debbie their oldest was special needs and lived a beautiful cheerful life until her death in 2009. His daughter Marilyn and his only son Harvey who passed away in January of this year from a long battle with cancer and his youngest daughter Pamela.
Mark spent the majority of his life in California living the storybook American dream and defying every intention of Hitler’s “ final solution. In fact he made a success of himself in the jewelry business and provided a beautiful life for his entire family.
In the last few years he succumbed to dementia and lived his final years with superb care together with his wife Helen. His wife, two daughters and granddaughter survived him.
Mark lived to an old age of 92 against all odds and on his own terms. He was living proof that hate does not defy us but rather hope and courage does.
He lived and loved and was loved and will be remembered for his contagious smile and enormous heart.
He will forever be missed.
