Mildred Holland Wilson (nee Klein), 88, passed away the morning of 26 July 2024. Her health had been declining for some time, then in early June she fell, fractured her spine, and began her final downward spiral through the medical system. She passed peacefully in her sleep at Kaiser Permanente Ontario Medical Center (CA), having been surrounded by loving family for many weeks.
She is survived by her children, Eric Wilson (Joyce Tavon), Davida Freed (nee Wilson) (Jack Freed), Cindy Bergman (nee Wilson) (Ilan Bergman), and her grandchildren Kate Freed, Rebecca Kalafarski (nee Freed) (Jay Kalafarski), Rochel Bergman (Mickey Hernandez), Sophie Wilson, Tina Zhu Xi Caruso, and her sisters-in-law Betsy Winkelman (nee Wilson) and Sylvia Garrett (nee Wilson). She was pre-deceased by her husband of 60 years Maurice Wilson, her sister Sylvia Klein, her parents Rachel Klein (nee Waxman) and Lewis Klein, and her sister-in-law Fern Selling (nee Wilson).
Mildred was the kindest person we’ve ever met, and was loved by more people than we can count. The nurses in the hospital fell in love with her during her final days.
She was born in Detroit on 12 Oct 1935, married Maurice Wilson in 1957, had three kids (and a dog), moved to Santa Monica, CA in 1976, had five grandchildren and many admirers. She worked behind the counter at Darrin Drugs in Oak Park, MI while her kids were in school and kept a clean, welcoming home that many visited. All the kids in the neighborhood gathered at the Wilson home. Mildred was a great cook and baker – the house was always stocked with her homemade chocolate chip cookies, amazing chocolate cake and traditional Jewish dishes. And she was the “Kiddush lady” at “The Shul on the Beach” in Venice, CA for nearly 40 years! She fed a lot of people!
Funeral at 1:00 pm PDT on Sunday, 28 July 2024 at 1:00 at Eden Memorial, 11500 Sepulveda Blvd, Mission Hills, CA 91345.
