Dear, Ethel, Ward, and Susan,

I will always remember how enthusiastic Milt was when he was talking about his interest in visiting college campuses. In the mid 1980's, after moving back to the Philadelphia area from southern California, my wife Liz and I who are very close friends with Mari and Ward, had the pleasure to host Milt and Ethel one evening during their trip back east. Milt wanted to see the University of Pennsylvania campus and we had a great time talking about how to get there and what to see etc. I knew Penn very well, since I graduated from the school in the early 70's. Milt's eyes lit up when I told him that he could add to his "campus collection" because Villanova and Saint Joe's were both within 10 minutes from our home.

This information excited Milt even more and it stimulated a even longer conversation about what to see at those schools as well. I think at one point, he may have suggested to Ethel, that I accompanying them to assure that he would see all that we had discussed.

I always enjoyed being around Milt and Ethel and will remember the sparkle in his eyes and the energy in his voice as we talked. I will also remember Ethel's gentle acceptance of his energy and her concern that he was taking up our time. It meant so much to me that Ward's mom and dad took the time to visit me and Liz. It confirmed the deep connection that I had with him and that our friendship would and has endured distance and time.

Love to you all,

Chuck (and for Liz & Evan) Gallagher
