Norman Schechter, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on October 21, 2025, surrounded by his family. He was born on November 23, 1933, in Brooklyn, New York, to the late Paul and Leah Schechter.
Norman lived his life with warmth, humor, and an unwavering devotion to those he loved. While attending the University of Miami, he met Rosalyn, the love of his life, and together they began a beautiful marriage that would last more than seven decades.
Known for his kindness and steady presence, Norman built a career as the owner of a collections agency. But his greatest joy came from the life he created at home. He had a deep passion for gardening, often spending quiet days tending to his garden, and found peace in the simple beauty of watching things grow, much like the love and pride he felt watching his family flourish.
He was deeply devoted to his family and cherished the time spent with them above all else. Whether traveling together, celebrating milestones, or simply enjoying one another’s company, Norman’s family remained the heart of his life.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Leah; as well as sisters, Rhoda (Paul) Freeman and Phyllis (Robbie) Medvin. Norman is survived by his devoted wife of 71 years, Rosalyn; daughters Bonnie (Chris) Gibson, Gail (David) Satin, and Lisa (Gary) Levine; grandchildren Sean (Lauren) Gibson, Josh (Allyson) Satin, Justin (Bridget) Levine, Matthew Gibson, Danny (Emily) Satin, Lindsey (Mitchell) Surowitz, Jamie (David) Shafer, Nicole Gibson, and Dylan (Jade) Satin; and great-grandchildren Hazel, Sloane, Mason, Addison, Jax, Summer, Avery, Natalie, Noah, Max, Sophie, Maya, and another great-grandson on the way. He is also lovingly remembered by sister-in-law Barbara Barak and her daughters, Susan Barak and Beth (Sander) Ressler.
The funeral service will be held at the Groman Eden Chapel (11500 Sepulveda Blvd., Mission Hills, CA 91345) on Sunday, October 26, 2025 at 11 am, Rabbi Mark Blazer officiating. Graveside service to immediately follow at Eden Memorial Park.
