
Sam Yellen of Woodland Hills, California, passed away after a lengthy illness, January 18, 2015 (27 Tevet 5775), at 84. Services will be held Thursday, January 22, 2015, at 1 pm, in the Eternal Light Chapel of Groman Eden Mortuary. Services will be officiated by Rabbi Stewart Vogel and Cantor Mike Stein, of Temple Aliyah, and will conclude Graveside in Eden Memorial Park. Sam was an extraordinary human being. His impact on those who knew and loved him was enormous. He was known for his integrity, great wit, and humble nature. Sam graduated from City College in New York then attended USC where he received his MBA. In 1955 he began his illustrious career with KMPG (then Peat, Marwick, Mitchell and Co.). He became Partner In-Charge of Professional Practices at KPMG, President of the California State Board of Accountancy, and President of the National Association of the State Boards of Accountancy. All who knew him loved him for his genius in solving problems, his mentoring, and friendship. He received numerous recognitions such as the Lion of Judah Award from the Anti-Defamation League, and the Community Leadership Award from Cal State University Northridge. Upon retiring, Sam guest lectured at CSUN, CSULA, and USC. He also served on numerous Boards
of Directors, including Del Webb, Downey Savings and Loan, Pacific Premier Bank, LTC Properties, and Webush Morgan Securities.
Sam married Thelma Pomarantz in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, on March 2, 1955; and then settled in Southern California. He is survived by his wife, Thelma of nearly 60 years; his son Stuart, his daughter, Susie (Ben); his grandchildren, Andrew and Justin; his brother, Tom; his sister-in-law, Esther (Sandy); and his brother-in-law, Herb (Valerie). In addition, he is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and life-long friends.
All who knew Sam loved him deeply, and will sorely miss him. He impacted the lives of all who knew him.
