Born in Los Angeles on June 29, 1957 to Natalie (who preceded her in death) and Aaron Grossman, Sheryl graduated from Fairfax High School where she served as a manager for the baseball and football teams, and was active in the school's drama program. Shortly after high school, she married Larry Zide, who would become her loving husband of 38 years; together they raised four beautiful and successful children: Danielle, Jason, Sydney (Ben) and Amy. In a world and time when most people don't realize their life's ambitions, Sheryl achieved hers, that of being a dedicated, loving, involved (and tough) wife and mother.
Perhaps nothing represented Sheryl's fighting spirit more than her tireless work for the LA Kings Cystic Fibrosis Golf Tournament, an event she and Larry started to keep alive the memory of their first-born daughter Julie, who had passed away tragically at a young age. Determined to do whatever she could to help fight this dreadful disease, Sheryl partnered with Larry to create and run a golf tournament that over a 25 year period raised over $4 million to benefit the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. While Larry ran the golf side of things, Sheryl took control of the auctions and dinners. Many a business owner quaked upon hearing Sheryl Zide was on the phone to talk about the CF Golf Tournament, knowing they would not get off easy or cheap.
In addition to Larry, Danielle, Jason, Sydney (Ben) and Amy, Sheryl is survived by her father Aaron, brothers Marc (Shirley) and David; a host of nieces and nephews, Lauren, Erik, David, Brian, Justin, Megan and Jeremy and a legion of close friends who gathered continually around Sheryl's island kitchen. All will miss the light she brought into their lives.
A funeral service will be held Thursday, February 18, 2016, 1pm at Groman Eden Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
