Anthony Michael Naman

Anthony Michael Naman, age 101 and lifelong resident of Mobile AL, died peacefully at his home on September 12, 2026. Survived by his six children Elizabeth Betbeze, Alec Naman (Kathy), Margie Duffy (Kevin), Richard Naman, Catherine Naman, and Thomas Naman (Karen), his 12 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, his brother Dr. Louis Naman (Marsha), and sister Mabel Elias. Preceded in death by his loving wife Cecelia, his devoted daughter-in-law Sharon, his parents George and Helen Naman, and 8 siblings.

Tony attended McGill Institute in Mobile, AL and Auburn University before serving in WWII and the Korean War. During WWII, Tony served with the 7th Infantry Division in Germany during the Battle of the Bulge. He was awarded the Bronze Star and Purple Heart upon returning home in Mobile and being discharged as a noncommissioned Master Sergeant.

Tony and Cecelia owned Naman's Super Food Store for 55 years. He cherished his business and the many dedicated customers that he served over many years. It was always his joy to run into customers and loyal employees wherever he went around town.

Tony was active in many community organizations and activities that were dear to his heart. As a parishioner of St Pius X Church, he was a dedicated member of the St. Vincent DePaul Society. He supported the Little Sisters of the Poor Lawn party and was active with the McGill Toolen Booster Club and School Board for many years. He served on the Mobile Historical Society, the Broad Street Revitalization program, and the Mobile Palm Society. He was an active member of the Lebanese American Club. He trusted the Power of Prayer of the Carmelite Monastery immensely and made sure he passed that tradition on to each of his children by taking them for visits. Also dear to his heart was the Visitation Monastery and serving as Chairman of Catholic Charities for many decades. He was proud to be a 4th Degree Knights of Columbus and attend Mobile events in full dress.

Faith and family were the fundamentals Tony honored each day. He loved attending the Mobile Symphony Orchestra and the Mobile Opera performances. He loved watching his favorite football teams both Auburn and Alabama, especially since he was on the Auburn Football team.

Visitation will be on September 18, 2026

5 P.M. until 8 P.M. with the Rosary at 7:30 P. M. at Ascension Funeral Home, 1016 Hillcrest Road Mobile, AL.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on September 19, 2026 at 10am at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 217 S. Sage Ave, Mobile, AL 36606.

Interment will be in Pine Crest Cemetery West on Snow Road.
