Betty Jean Russell

Betty was a lifelong resident of Mobile. She was a member of the Murphy High School graduating class of 1954. On February 9, 1957, she married Edward Thomas Russell. Together they raised five children.

An active parishioner at St Pius X Catholic Church, she served proudly as a Eucharistic Minister and as a member of the St Pius X Ladies Sodality. Additionally, Betty was a former board member of the following organizations: Archdiocese Council of Catholic Women (ACCW), St Mary’s Home Auxiliary, St Jude’s by the Bay, and the American Heart Association Southeast Region. She also volunteered at Providence Auxiliary and the Ronald McDonald House. She retired from AT&T in 1991 after 33 years of service and continued her association with AT&T as a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America, a non-profit charitable organization.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Edward Thomas Russell, her son Michael Earl Russell, daughter-in-law Frances McCullar Russell, her great granddaughter, Dorothy Jean Dolbare, her parents Benjamin and Adell (McClammy) Fleming and her sister Ruby Dean Hamilton.

She is survived by her children Edward Thomas (Darlene) Russell, Jr., Robin Michele (Powell) Hamlin, Sandra Jean (Marc) George, Joseph Scott (Phyllis) Russell, 13 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 9:00-11:00AM on Monday, November 25, 2019 at the Sarto Center at St. Pius X Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00AM on Monday at St. Pius X Catholic Church. Interment will be at Pine Crest Cemetery.
