Kay was born in Providence, Rhode Island on May 30, 1932 and called Mobile her home since arriving as young girl at Little Flower School. Kay was a beloved wife, daughter and mother to four girls. She was courageous in the face of a cruel disease and there was never a more fierce opponent than Kay Weiss. She passed away just after 2022 was ushered in, surrounded by her family. Kay was preceded in death by the love-of-her-life, James Edward “Eddie” Weiss, her parents, Kathleen “Kitty” and Edward Jackson and one brother, Edward V. Jackson. She is survived by her daughters, Kathy (John) Peavy, Honey Weiss, Claire (Brian) Gilliland and Terri (John) Yeend of Tuscaloosa, AL. Her grandchildren Ryan (Brian) McDonald of Huntville, Jay (Colleen) Peavy, Mary Elizabeth Peavy, Robert (Ciara) Gilliland of Cheyenne, Wyoming, Susan Gilliland of Ft. Wayne, Indiana and Katie Yeend of Tuscaloosa, AL. PerKay took great pride in her great-grandchildren: Grace and Leo Marcopulos, Ian Peavy and Ezri Gilliland.
Mother was, no doubt, a many-titled woman: Devoted Daughter to Ed and Kitty Jackson, Honored Wife to her best friend and
first love, Eddie Weiss Beloved “Mother, Mom, My Momma, My Momma” to four daughters as different as day and night
PerKay is the name that Jay bestowed as her “Grandmother Name” and used by all affectionately. Sue March and Bonnie Barnett dubbed her Mother Church. Many at Holy Family called her The Church Lady, but, according to Sr. Kevin, she was
simply, “that saint Mrs. Weiss, God love her.” In the past year, each of the ladies who cared for Mother had a pet name for her... .”the queen of everything” (maybe that was Tippy, her dear friend and companion) ”My Miss Kay”...”My Angel.”
These last years were challenging on every level. Physically, after Mother was so badly injured in October of 2020, she showed how much courage, bravery and determination she had. They said she would never walk again. They said her survival was less than 6 months. There were times when she lost her drive, to be sure. However, those times were brief. Most of us
wouldn 't have been able to confront Alzheimer's and two broken hips without folding. Her Lord was with her every step of
the way. We said the Our Father together every night when she was ready for sleep. She continued to mouth the words in the final days of her life. PerKay is in Heaven, there is no doubt.
Mother's family members would like to express their sincere appreciation for the many kindnesses extended to Mother as she succumbed to the unkindest disease of all. Kay's nephew, Edward (Christine) Jackson, of Fairhope, has been a gentle voice who was always available to offer reassurance and put her worries to rest. The nurses at SAAD Hospice, Connie and Penny, who kept mother comfortable as she left this world, Sarah, Mother's Home Health Aide, whose compassion and respect kept
Mother beautiful, and the Physical Therapists, Lauren, Josh and Todd who helped God to achieve a miracle In particular, it was the devotion and loving care that Mother received from Ms. Sandra McCormick, Mrs. Edna Quartey, Ms. Helen Johnson, Ms. Sylvika Shoots and Mrs. Taysha Johnson who brought joy, laughter, dignity and comfort to our beloved Mother for which we will be forever indebted.
Visitation will be from 12:00 Noon until 1:00 P.M. on Thursday, January 6, 2022 at Holy Family Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00 P.M. from Holy Family Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Pine Crest Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to the charity of your choice in Mother's name.
