Kenneth Joseph Harris

Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Tolly and Jeanette Harris and sister Annette Harris Gantt. He is survived by his beloved wife, Gail Dial Harris, daughters, Gail Harris Filotei (Bob), Stephanie Harris Davis (Parish), grandchildren: Jordan Filotei Jones (Matthew), Tolly Dalton Filotei (Te’a) and Kayla Christine Davis as well as great granddaughter Isla Josephine Jones. He leaves to cherish his memories his brothers Roger Harris (Marty), Henry Harris and his baby sister Teresa Harris Mathews (Bill) as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended relatives.

Kenny loved being outdoors and rarely spent time inside. He was an avid fisherman from a young age and spent countless hours on a lake bank. Hunting from deer stands and his front porch brought many stories that will be cherished. After retiring from CSX, he enjoyed traveling and antiquing throughout the United States. Everyone who knew Kenny, knew that he would be visiting his friends at the Lucedale stockyard on Wednesdays. Buying, selling, and haggling for better prices made his blue eyes twinkle. His vegetable gardens were always beautiful, and he shared his bounty with family, friends, and neighbors.Uncle Joe brought joy to many children and families via “Uncle Joe’s Rolling Zoo” with his calm nature and sharing his love of farm animals with others.

Papa rarely missed a sporting event that his grandchildren were participating in and would often become passionate if he thought there was a bad call by a referee or umpire. He supported his girls and their families with love and guidance.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, December 8, 2024, at Wilmer Methodist Church at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Camp Rap A Hope. He would get joy in knowing children were able to fish and play outdoors with his help.

Pallbearers will be Bob Filotei, Parish Davis, Tolly Filotei, Matthew Jones, Billy Mathews, and Donnie Gantt. Thank you to the caregivers: Kim Estis, Erica Hyter, Donnell Jones, Kailey Havard, Corey Howell and Patricia Lucky.
