Kevin Christopher Jones, at the all too young age of 56, passed away unexpectedly, but peaceably, at his residence in Mobile, Alabama, on July 29th, due to complications from Diabetes. Born, June 3, 1965, in Beaufort, SC, to Marine Colonel P.J. Jones, who predeceased him, and his mother, Colleen Ruth Hanson, (Jones) of Chestertown, MD. Kevin was the devoted and loving father of Shannan Nichol Jones and Kasey Joseph Jones, both of Mobile, AL. He is survived by brother Brian Timothy Jones, of Paoli, PA, sisters Kelly Patricia West (Jones), of Hermosa Beach, CA and Nora Emling (Jones) of Pensacola FL. Also, stepbrothers Daniel Hynes of Milton, FL, Timothy Hynes, of Mableton, GA and stepmother, Tanya Jones, of Pensacola, FL.
Kevin grew up primarily in Camarillo, CA, where he attended Rio Mesa High School, after which he attended the University of Southern California. In his, younger, California years, Kevin was an avid surfer, skateboarder and skier. During his high school years, Kevin excelled on the soccer field as an All-Conference award winner.
In later life, he enjoyed golf, competitive billiards, cooking and spending time with his friends, amongst whom he had the reputation as the best storyteller East of the Mississippi. But his true love was doing anything and everything with his two beautiful children. Whether it be watching them chase their dreams, going to various music concerts, which reflected his passionate love of music, or on deep sea fishing outings, he was always the happiest when he was doing things with Shannan and Kasey.
His career life centered around the restaurant hospitality industry, where he rose through the ranks to being one of the top managers in a large, well known, regional, family restaurant and lounge group where he was recognized as their “Manager of the Year.” His success as a restaurant manger was due, in large part, to the love and care he had for those who worked for him and with him.
Rather than a funeral service, the family has chosen to hold a “Celebration of Life” gathering, at Crown Hall, 853 Dauphin Street in Mobile AL, on Friday, August 6th starting at 2:00 PM until 6:00 PM, where both friends and family will be treated to some of Kevin’s culinary favorites while recalling and reflecting upon their shared memories of Kevin’s, all too brief but full, life, amazing sense of humor and deep rooted, compassionate, giving nature. Everyone is welcome to join the celebration. Loved by many, missed by all, Kevin may be gone, but he will never be forgotten.
The family respectfully requests, that in lieu of flowers, donations be directed to the American Diabetes Association, in the hope, that by doing so, some future group of family and friends will be spared the sadness of this most personal of losses.
