Wayne is survived by his spouse of 62 years, Marie Vielle Owens; his children, Mark (Dana) Owens of Bradenton, FL; Deborah (Simon) Limmer of Auckland, New Zealand; Kevin (Marinda) Owens of Cumming GA; his grandchildren Russell Owens; Taylor Owens; Lane Owens; Elise Owens; Madeleine Limmer; and Victor Limmer; his great-grandchildren, Beau Owens and Aubrey Owens.
He was preceded in death by his father Louis Clyde Owens, and his mother Jessie Mae Bond Owens.
Raised in Greensboro, Alabama, he graduated from Auburn University before answering the call to serve his country in the United States Marine Corps. Following his military service, he built a career in the finance and credit industry, working in several cities throughout the Southeast before ultimately making Mobile, Alabama, his home.
In Mobile, he became an active member of St. Dominic Catholic Parish and was deeply involved in the community through the Crewe of Columbus and the Jubilee Club. He found great joy in deep-sea fishing and, above all, in watching and supporting his children as they participated in sports. He will be remembered for his dedication to his family, his service to his country, his friendships and community involvement, and the many simple pleasures he shared with those he loved.
The family will receive friends from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. on Monday, September 28, 2026 in the Murphy Center at St. Dominic Catholic Church, 4160 Burma Road, Mobile, Alabama 36693. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Monday at St. Dominic Catholic Church with Reverend Travis Burnett as celebrant. Graveside services with Military Honors will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, September 28, 2026 at Mobile Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 6100 Three Notch Rd, Mobile, AL 36619. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the St. Dominic Chapter of the St. Vincent de Paul Society.
