Peggy Joan Ray

Peggy Joan Ray (McCarty) passed away De­cember 7, 2014. She was born in Russellville, Arkansas. Mrs. Ray lived in many parts of the country and was a long time resident of Gainesville, Florida before making Mobile, Alabama her home in 1988.

Mrs. Ray is predeceased by her father, Anderson Cleve McCarty and mother, Freddie Joan McCarty (Campbell).

Mrs. Ray is survived by her husband of 45 years Bar­ton W. Ray, daughter Jessica Powers (Ray), son Whitney Ray, daughter-in-law Jamie Ray (Kohrummel), two grand­sons: Jake Powers and Evan Ray, granddaughter Reagan Ray; brother Michiel Mc­Carty; and many special best friends, relatives, co-workers and church members.

Peggy Ray married the love of her life and best friend Barton W. Ray in West Port, Connecticut in 1968.

She completed her degree in Business Administration at the University of Florida in 1982 in Gainesville, Florida. Mr. and Mrs. Ray and their children developed a love for the Florida Gators that has been passed down to their grand children.

Mrs. Ray was in the health care industry for over 20 years. Some previous em­ployments include; Charter Hospital, Prime Health, CSI, and lastly she was an Imple­mentation Coordinator at the SSI Group.

Peggy Ray attended Christ United Methodist Church since 1988. She was always an active member and volun­teered for 25 years. Mrs. Ray joined the church choir in 1998 and immensely enjoyed singing for The Lord.

Peggy Ray has been an in­spiration to all that knew her. She was deeply admired for her strength and fortitude. She was always in a wonder­ful mood and never com­plained. Family and friends felt better, acted better, and were better because of Peg­gy Ray.

The family will receive friends on Friday, December 19, 2014 from 5 pm until the 6 pm memorial service at Christ United Methodist Church, 6401 Grelot Road, Mobile, Alabama 36609.

Flowers are appreciated however; a fund has been designated by the family in memory of Peggy Ray at the MD Anderson Center, gifts.mdanderson.org. All dona­tions made in her name in the” Funds Designated by Family” section will go to In­flammatory Breast Cancer Research.
