Mr. Robert “Bob” Lucien Knight, 86, passed away peacefully Friday, July 30, 2021, surrounded by his wife and family while listening to an organ rendition of “What a friend we have in Jesus.” Bob was a humble man of faith, greatly beloved by his family and friends. He had a heart for service and missions, sharing his gifts, talents, and resources where needed. Bob always strived to put Christ first in everything and to serve Him in all ways.
Bob was born in Kentucky and grew up in Ramona, California. Growing up he developed a love for organ music. After being drafted and serving in the Army, Bob and his father opened Knight Iron Works in Vista, California. He then ventured into construction work and eventually opened an awning shop in Vista. He built and lived in several houses in Vista and was an integral part of the foundation and construction of the First Baptist Church of Vista. Upon retirement, Bob moved to Defiance, Ohio and then finally to Mobile, Alabama to be closer to family in the area.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Dorothy Knight, his step-mother Goldie, and his first wife Judith. He is survived by his adoring and loving wife, Belvia Evelyn Knight; his sister, Sandra Tobiason; his children, Elizabeth, Robert Jr., and Brian; his stepchildren, Henry, Eric, and Vicki; 9 grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren. “Grandpa Bob” will be greatly missed by all and we look forward to being together with him again one day in Heaven.
Celebrations of life will be held privately among family members. In lieu of flowers, donations in Bob’s memory may be made to the Christ Fellowship Baptist Church (P.O. Box 9607, Mobile, AL 36691).
