It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Robert Wilson “Bobby” Russ, Jr, who peacefully entered the presence of his Lord on July 24, 2026, surrounded by loved ones. He leaves behind an enduring legacy of love, laughter and lasting memories that will live in our hearts forever.
Bobby was born on June 11, 1946 to Mary Polk Wilson Russ and Robert Wilson Russ, Sr. A graduate of UMS Preparatory School, Bobby continued his education at the University of Alabama and University of South Alabama. After graduation he was commissioned as an officer in the United States Army. Bobby then transitioned from serving his country to serving others by building a career in the insurance industry. He took pride in helping individuals and families understand their options and meeting their needs with care and kindness. One of the greatest testimonies of his life was his 40 years of sobriety. A milestone that reflected his perseverance, humility, and commitment to living one day at a time.
A man of unwavering faith, joyful spirit, and unconditional love for his family, Bobby lived a life that reflected the values he held most dear. His faith in God shaped not only what he believed, but how he lived.
To know him was to know someone who never met a stranger. He was an eternal optimist who always had a smile on his face. Bobby had a fun-loving personality, a warm heart, and an infectious laugh that could brighten any room. He had a gift for making others feel seen and special.
He was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather who will be remembered for his kindness, positive spirit and boundless energy. His family was his greatest earthly blessing, and nothing brought him more joy than spending time with each one. His zest for life, sense of humor and gift for conversation will forever be remembered by those that were fortunate enough to know and love him.
He leaves behind his beloved wife Tracy Russ; two sons, Robert Wilson (Dana) Russ, III, Robin (Kelly) Russ; five daughters, Kendrick Mostellar, Taylor Russ (Witt) Wittner, Micah Russ, Haley Russ, Abby Russ; ten grandchildren, Matthew Russ, Stephen (Kennedie) Russ, Robert Wilson Russ, IV, John Russ, Cooper Russ, Bennett Russ, Joseph Russ, William Russ, Allie Russ, Wil Mostellar and dear friends who will forever cherish the memories they shared with Bobby.
Though our hearts are broken, we rejoice in knowing he is now at peace in the presence of his Savior, hearing the words, "Well done, good and faithful servant." (Matthew 25:23)
Bobby will be laid to rest at Magnolia Cemetery.
