Robin Edward Barnett, age 70, passed away peacefully in Mobile, Alabama, on August 31, 2026, from complications of congestive heart failure. Born on October 30, 1955, in New Orleans, Louisiana, Robin was a gentle soul and a devout Christian who spent his life filling the world with rhythm, passion, and deep devotion to his Savior and those he loved. Robin grew up in Mobile, graduating from Williamson High School before continuing his education at Mobile College, now known as the University of Mobile. He went on to dedicate many years of service to Historic Blakeley State Park, where he ultimately retired. As a faithful Methodist, Robin's life was anchored in his love for Jesus, which guided his kind nature and generous spirit. His selflessness shone brightly even in his final days; when a hospital chaplain asked him what he wanted to pray for, Robin requested prayers for world peace, echoing the words of John 14:27: “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”
A lifelong musician, Robin’s heartbeat was rooted in music. He shared his incredible talent as a drummer for various bands throughout his life. He was forever inspired by his favorite band, Rush, and had a deep appreciation for the legendary drummer Carl Palmer. When he wasn't behind a drum kit, he was an enthusiastic sports fan, passionately cheering on the Alabama Crimson Tide and the New Orleans Saints.
On November 8, 2003, Robin married the love of his life, Teresa. Together for 33 beautiful years and married for 22, they built a life founded on a love that stood the test of time. Together, they found joy in the simple and grand adventures of life, from peaceful trips to the mountains and beaches to their annual March tradition at the NHRA Gatornationals in Gainesville, Florida.
While they never had children, Robin was a dedicated and loving father to their cherished fur babies. Robin is survived by his devoted wife, Teresa Dearman Barnett; his beloved cats, Jack, Miss Kitty, and Whiskers; his sisters, Ada Barnett Whisenhant and Sara Lynn Hall (Andy); and his brother-in-law, Steve Dearman (Kim). He also leaves behind a legacy of love through his nephews, Alex Whisenhant (Amanda), Matthew Whisenhant (Morgan), and Jeffrey Andrew Hall (Alison); his nieces, Ashley Nicole Kleidschodt (Paul), Kristin Walley (Neal), Kaitlyn Byrd (Chason), and Kelsey McCalip (Drake); and 23 adored great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Marlene Whisenhant; his stepfather, George "Pop" Whisenhant; his father, Jeptha Kent (JK) Barnett; and his beloved cat, Chloe, who passed away in October 2025. Robin’s rhythm, warmth, and enduring love will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
A celebration of life and a graveside memorial service will be held in Lucedale, Mississippi, at a later date.
