William B. Burnett, Jr.

William B. Burnett, Jr., 82, of Orange Beach, AL passed away January 23, 2017. Bill was born in Alexander City, Alabama. In 1957, he married Carol Jean Burnett (nee Davidson). Together, as a Navy family, they raised three daughters. Bill retired as a Senior Chief Petty Officer from the U.S. Navy after 22 years of service. Bill was known for the positive influence he had on his fellow sailors, who remained in touch with him throughout his life.

Bill moved to Orange Beach in 2003, where, along with his late wife Jean Smith, he was a founding member of Treasures of the Isle Mardi Gras Association. Bill enjoyed bowling, a good steak, his friends, football, Westerns, working on cars, his dogs, and travel. He traveled across the globe as a sailor and later in life as a tourist. Bill’s greatest joy was his daughters and grandchildren; he was a proud and devoted father and grandfather.

Bill was predeceased by his parents, two brothers, sister, two son-in-laws, and wife Jean Smith. He leaves behind the mother of his three daughters, Jean Burnett, who along with Patty and Bob Davidson, remained his lifelong friends; daughters, Kimberly Nimmons (Michael), Lynn Skaggs (David), and Kara Rose (Joe); grandchildren Aaron, Christopher, Rachel, Carson, and Dillan; nieces, nephews, and many friends. Bill’s ashes will go to their final resting place during a family service in Alexander City, AL.
