Alta Ashley Tysinger, 93, passed away peacefully at White Oak Manor of Waxhaw on November 14, 2018. She was born in the Indian Land community of Lancaster County SC on April 8, 1925, daughter of the late Winslow M. Ashley Sr. and Florence Elizabeth Ashley.
She married the love of her life, the late Roy Crayton Tysinger Sr. on August 22, 1942. She entered the public sector and worked for Alisa Inc. and Kenneth Home Fashions. Alta was a faithful member of Osceola UMC, SC where she was known as the “Cake Lady”. She also served as the official greeter of the church for many years. She was blessed with the talent of baking and decorating cakes and always made small fruitcakes to give all family members and church members at Christmas. She loved having family around for holiday meals and made sure everyone’s plate was full at all times.
In addition to her parents and husband, Alta was predeceased by a son Roy “Butch” Tysinger Jr.; a brother, Winslow M. “Peanut” Ashley Jr.; sisters, Lavater “Bate” Knight, Rosa Lee Blythe, and Clifford “Cliff” Blythe.
Alta is survived by a daughter, Beverly Haywood and husband Larry of Waxhaw, a son, Darrell Tysinger and wife Cindy of Monroe, daughter-in-law, Betty M. Tysinger of Waxhaw, and brother, Kenneth C. Ashley and wife Catherine of Gastonia. Four grandchildren, Derek Haywood, Julie H. Baucom and husband Randy, Christi T. Tarlton and Faith Tysinger and four great-grandchildren, Ashley, Bailey, and Kendall Belk and Torie Tarlton, also survive her.
The family will receive friends at McEwen Funeral Home of Monroe on Saturday, November 17, 2018 from 1:00pm to 2:00pm. Followed by a funeral service at 2:00pm with her niece, Marilyn B. Wooten officiating. Burial will follow at Waxhaw City Cemetery.
