Born on December 29, 1940, to Hurley George and Rossie Medlin Chaney, he was a devoted husband for over 58 years to Mary Frances Hill Chaney and a loving father to Donna Kapfer (Garry), Kevin Chaney (Dana), and Shelton Chaney (Jennifer).
Aubrey was a graduate of Unionville High School where he played basketball and shortstop for a two-year Union County Championship baseball team.
As a young man, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and served his country proudly, including a two-year deployment to Japan during the Vietnam War. He was active with the American Legion NC Post 535, often serving as a member of the Honor Guard.
Aubrey was a hard-working and dedicated person, spending his entire career as a transportation fleet mechanic. He was known for his ability to trouble-shoot and fix problems.
Despite his many responsibilities, he always made time for his family. He loved the game of baseball and spent several years coaching his sons' Little League teams.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Lucille Chaney Rushing and Joyce Chaney Bivens; brothers Hayden Chaney and Thurman Chaney. He is survived by his beloved wife Mary Frances, his children, and five grandchildren: Ethan, Jonah, Emma, Lois, and Matthew Chaney.
Visitation will be from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm and the funeral service from 2:15 pm to 3:15 pm on August 30 at McEwen Funeral Home Monroe, 204 S. Main St., Monroe, NC 28112. Immediately following, the graveside service and burial will be at Lakeland Memorial Park, 1901 Lancaster Avenue, Monroe, NC 28112.
