Bryan Kenneth Whitley, 59, of New Salem, North Carolina, passed away at his home on November 5, 2018. He was born in Charlotte, North Carolina to Linda and Kenneth on September 10, 1959. Bryan spent his childhood living in Charlotte and cherished the time he spent with his grandparents in the country. He loved animals and for most of life could be found with a horse or dog, particularly a Rottweiler, by his side. He graduated in 1978 from Myers Park High School in Charlotte. Bryan was a truck driver for 18 years and welcomed the opportunity to see much of the country in his travels. In the early 2000’s, while spending time in Elberton, Georgia, Bryan began a new career path working with granite. He and his mother owned and managed Beaty Monuments in Monroe, North Carolina, where he was able to help others in their time of need. Bryan had a passion for firearms and enjoyed shooting with friends any day of the week. He was a man you could count on, and all who knew him could trust that he would drop anything to help in any way he possibly could He was a successful man, but to Bryan, his greatest success was his “Shugg”, Britney Lynn. You didn’t know Bryan very long without knowing his daughter. He was so very proud of her and they shared a bond and friendship like no other. His favorite story to tell, more than once, was the one about Britney following him down the stairs, wearing the same grin Bryan would have on his face telling the story, saying, “What are we gonna do today, Dad?” Bryan is survived by his mother, Linda Smith Beaty of New Salem and his daughter, Britney Lynn Whitley of Stallings. Bryan is preceded in death by his father, Kenneth Whitley, of Indian Trail; his grandparents, Martin and Emma Whitley of Oakboro and Clarence and Blanch Smith of New Salem. A service to Celebrate Bryan’s life will be held at McEwen Funeral Home of Monroe at 3:00 pm on Monday, November 12, 2018 immediately followed by a visitation reception. Bryan was greatly loved and his family and friends will miss him more than he could have ever imagined.

Linda and family, I am so sorry to hear of Bryan’s passing. My heart is hurting today. I know how much he meant to you Linda and how much you will miss him. Bryan was a wonderful person. Always so positive and optimistic. He had a happy go lucky personality. He was a kind and humble man. He loved his family, and was so very proud of his daughter Britney. He will always hold a special place in my heart. Bryan, you will be truly missed.
