

Buck was born in Mecklenburg County on July 21, 1934 to the late Neal & Nellie Hunter. Buck spent 23 years in the United States Air Force and was a three time Vietnam Veteran. After retiring from the military he returned to Charlotte, and then worked for the State of North Carolina in the Department of Corrections in Monroe for 20 years. When Buck was not working he enjoyed golfing and bowling and in his younger years playing softball. Buck enjoyed spending time with his family at the NC beaches, fishing, or going on cruises with his wife and family. Buck, aka Pawpaw was the “Rock” of the Hunter family. He had an incredible sense of humor and loved to tell stories. He would light up when his kids and grandchildren would come visit.
Buck is preceded in death by his parents, Neal & Nellie Hunter; 3 sisters; 3 brothers; and his grandson, Ross Tyler Chapman. He is survived by his loving wife, Mary of 68 years; his daughter Barbara (Lynn) of Charlotte; son Bobby (Donna) of Goldsboro, NC; daughter Wanda (Billy) of Clarksville, TN; and daughter Carol (Jerry) of Bastrop, TX; 10 grandchildren; and 15 great grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life and Military Flag Service will be held at McEwen Funeral Home, located at 204 South Main Street in Monroe, NC at 1:00 pm on Monday March 27, 2023. The family will receive friends following the service. The family would like to extend a special "Thanks" to Linda & Gabby from Home Instead for taking such great care of Buck for the past 2 years. He enjoyed their loving care and always looked forward to seeing them every week.
