He was born in Union County, NC, to Clyde Sr. and Velma Long. A member of Shiloh Advent Christian Church, he served as Sunday School teacher, church pianist, and was passionate about reading and memorizing Scripture. He loved old cars, tractors, and farming, but his greatest loves were his Lord and family.
Clyde was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde Sr. and Velma Helms Long and his sister, Kelly Ann Long. He is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Mary Jane Helms Long; daughter Lori McKinley and husband Reid of Bozeman, MT; daughter Sherry Long of Monroe; daughter Britney Sturdivant and husband Marcus of Indian Trail, NC; grandchildren, Evan & Reagan McKinley, Xavier, Hailey, and Ariya Sturdivant; sister and brother-in-law Darius and Violet Hicks, sister and brother-in-law Michael and Gloria Stephenson, sister and brother-in-law Bill and Anita McAdam, brother and sister-in-law John and Judy Long, and brother Julian Long.
The family will receive friends at McEwen Funeral Home of Monroe (204 N. Main St.) on Thursday, August 22, 2019 from 6:00-8:00 pm. The funeral will be Friday, August 23, 2019 at Shiloh Advent Christian Church in Monroe (3601 Sikes Mill Rd.) at 11:00 am, to be followed by burial at Lakeland Memorial Park.
