

She was born on July 18, 1953, to the late Paul and Edith Elms.
A Union County native, Deborah was a graduate of Monroe High School. She had many hobbies and interests in her life including scratch-offs, hanging out with her cats, eating ice cream and grits, and writing everything down. More importantly, Deborah loved her family and enjoyed all the precious moments that were made and spent with them. She was a loving, giving, selfless, and dedicated woman who was often showcasing that love to others, especially her grandchildren. She had a quiet strength and resolve and will truly be missed by all who knew her.
Along with her parents, Deborah is preceded in death by her husband, Ray Somers; and sisters, Rochelle Medlin and Crystal Dewboys. She is survived by her daughter, Jacey Rogers; grandchildren, McKenna Rogers and Dane Rogers; and niece, Amy Smith.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, June 11, 2026, from 11:00 am until 12:00 pm at McEwen Funeral Home of Monroe, located at 204 South Main Street, Monroe, North Carolina. A funeral service to celebrate Deborah’s life will be held following the visitation at 12:15 pm in the McEwen Colonial Chapel with Pastor Jeff Whitecotton officiating. Burial will follow immediately after the service at Lakeland Memorial Park.
