Denver Holland “Doc” Laney, 87, of Monroe passed away at his home on Friday May 25, 2018.He was born on October 26, 1930 in Union County, NC to the late David Charlie and Odessa G. Laney. Doc was a Korean War Vet and proudly served 2 terms in the Army. He worked as a meat cutter for 43 years with both A & P and Harris Teeter. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and working in his yard.
Doc is predeceased by his 5 brothers; Ray, Dick, Bob, Wade and Johnny Laney and 5 sisters, Ruth Whitley, Christine Whitley, Beulah Thomas, Margie Barkley and Kathaleen Griffin. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Wendell Griffin Laney; sons, Jeffrey Laney and his wife, Linda of Jefferson, SC and Tony Laney of Pageland, SC; 5 grandchildren; Scotty Laney, Tonya Laney, Josh Laney, Amaris Laney and Tiffany Laney; 4 great-grandchildren, Skylar, Austin and Brantly Laney and Layden Nelson; special grandson, D.J. Baker and special niece, Tammy McCoy.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday May 29 from 6 pm to 8 pm at McEwen Funeral Home of Monroe. Funeral Services will be held at Mt. Zion Baptist Church on Wednesday May 30 at 3 pm followed by burial in the church cemetery
