

Dot was born on August 13, 1933 in Sylva, North Carolina. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roland William English, parents, T. Walter Ashe and Annie Jackson Ashe, and brothers, Ray Ashe and Carroll Ashe.
Dot is survived by her son, Errol English and daughter-in-law Deborah English; daughter, Sonya English Stafford and son-in-law, David Stafford; grandchildren Amanda Stafford McRell (David) and Benjamin Stafford; step-granddaughters Lona Houpt (James) and Erin Cardillo (Harry); step-great-grandchildren Andrew, Gabriella and Madison Houpt, and Olivia, Sophia, Harry and Nina Cardillo, and her great-grandchildren, Kinsley, Henry and Dorothy (“Little Dot”) McRell.
Dot loved sharing stories and memories of her happy childhood growing up in Jackson County, North Carolina. After graduating from Sylva High School, Dot attended Western Carolina University where she met Roland, her husband of 62 years.
Dot was very active her entire life. She enjoyed spending time outside and travelling, especially in the mountains of Western North Carolina where she grew up. She was very talented at cooking, gardening, sewing, and painting, and enjoyed many other hobbies. She loved animals and cared for many dogs and cats throughout her life. Dot was a skilled homemaker and especially enjoyed spending Christmas and other holidays with her family. She was an active member of Calvary Baptist Church for over 60 years. She loved her Church Family at Calvary where she taught Sunday School, sang in the choir, took care of little ones in the nursery, and built lifelong friendships. Most of all, she was a loving and much-loved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Services for Dorothy Ashe English will be held Wednesday February 11, 2026 at Calvary Baptist Church, 2518 Lancaster Highway, Monroe, North Carolina. Visitation will begin at 1:30PM followed by a Memorial Service at 2:30PM. Burial Service at the Monroe City Cemetery will immediately follow the Memorial Service. Rev. Eddie Price, Pastor of Calvary Baptist Church, will preside over the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Calvary Baptist Church of Monroe.
