

Bussie was born July 14, 1925 in Union County, the son of the late C.A. and Hattie Slagle. In addition to his parents, Mr. Slagle was preceded in death by his wife Dotchie Wooten Slagle and his son Eddie; two sisters: Mary Belle Fowler and Bernice Reeder; four brothers: William, John, James, and Jesse.
At age 17, Bussie left Monroe to join the Navy and serve in the Pacific Theater during World War II. He returned to Monroe after the war to finish high school at Mineral Springs. He worked for Monroe Hardware for 50 years, was a long-time member of Calvary Baptist Church, and attended camp meeting at Pleasant Grove Camp Ground his whole life. He loved and cared for his wife of 62 years until her passing. He was a great husband, father, grandfather and uncle, and was loved and respected by all. Bus was the epitome of a fine southern gentleman.
Mr. Slagle is survived by his daughter Rebecca Hill, her husband Harry, and grandchildren Frank, Hayley, and Emily Hill of Dania Beach, FL and many loving nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends and relatives for visitation Monday September 14, 2015 from 6:00 PM until 8:00PM at McEwen Funeral Home of Monroe.
Funeral services to celebrate the life of Mr. Slagle will be 11:00AM Tuesday September 15, 2015 at Calvary Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Eddie Price, with burial to follow with military honors in Lakeland Memorial Park.
The family suggests that memorials be made to Calvary Baptist Church, 2518 Lancaster Hwy., Monroe, NC 28112.
